Recycling Bath

Many of us have got used to putting our plastic bottles out for recycling. Those plastic bottles are made from oil - a fossil fuel that will one day run out. Having said that, only a small amount of plastic is used to make each bottle. Plastic packaging uses only a very small amount, about 2%, of all crude oil produced; plastic bottles use less than 0.3% of that. We don't want to allow those figures to stop us recycling plastic bottles as all sorts of amazing products can be made from them. For example, it takes just 25 x 2litre bottles to make one adult size fleece jacket!

Two last thoughts: a) In Britain, we still throw away around 455,000 tonnes of plastic bottles each year; put another way, that's around 9.1 billion bottles, and many of those, end up in landfill sites. b) It is important to recycle as much plastic as possible, rather than continually exploiting the fossil fuels used to make them in the first place.
